About the Design

The Bulgarian Traditional Symbols three coin set consists a coloured coin of each the Bulgarian Rose, The Surva and the Martenitza.

The Bulgarian Rose:Greek mythology says that white roses were born with Aphrodite to challenge her beauty. One day Eros, playing in the gardens of Mount Olympus, was stung by bees while gathering the flowers. His blood coloured the blossoms. Then Aphrodite in her eagerness to heal him dropped a bottle of perfume which gave its fragrance to the roses. Тhe Rose, famous as the queen of the flowers, is the symbol of Bulgaria.

The Martenitza: The First of March is an ancient Bulgarian holyday. Every year on this day Bulgarians give to their friends and close martenitza – an ornament from red and white threads, which is attached on the left side of clothes near to the heart. It’s a symbol of happiness and health.

The Surva:  This is a holiday characterized by the rich and many rituals. This is the day of the winter equinox, which makes it very convenient for various rituals and interpretations of omens.

Reverse Design

Bulgarian Rose:The reverse of this coin displays a beautiful coloured image of the Bulgarian Rose printed on a frosted background. The coin has an ornate selective gold gilded border with Bulgarian scripts.

The Martenitza:  Thereverse of this coin displays a coloured image ofan ornament from red and white threads. It’s a symbol of happiness and health. The coin has an ornate selective gold gilded border with Bulgarian scripts. 

The Surva: Thereverse of this coin displays a decorated cornel twig colour printed on a frosted background.  The coin has an ornate selective gold gilded border with Bulgarian scripts.

Obverse Design

The obverse of the coin features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, sovereign of the Commonwealth and denomination of Niue $2 

Limited Mintage

Each of the coins in the Bulgarian Traditional Coin set is struck from 1oz of pure silver. No more than 3,000 coin sets will be issued by the New Zealand Mint. The coins are legal tender of the Government of Niue Island.

Authenticity

Each Coin Set comes with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity issued by New Zealand Mint
