Celebrating the first space walk as part of the Conquest of Space series New Zealand Mint is proud to release the 1oz silver First Space Walk coin featuring Alexei Leonov . Alexei Leonov was one of the twenty Soviet Air Force pilots selected to be part of the first cosmonaut group in 1960. He was outside the Voshod 2 spacecraft for 12 minutes and 9 seconds on 18 March 1965, connected to the craft by a 5.35 metre tether.
The rectangular shaped pure .999 pure silver coloured coin is limited to 5,000 sets only.
With permission from Alexei Leonov presented on this coin in magnificent colour is a reproduction of his original painting that illustrated this historic achievement. Engraved in 3D relief is the space ship Voskhod 2 with Leonov walking in space connected by a 5.35 metre tether.
