Chinese New Year also known as the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It consists of a period of celebrations, starting on New Year's Day, celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar
The New Zealand Mint is proud to announce their first ever issue celebrating the Lunar New Year. This uncirculated issue provides a uniquely different approach to the Year of the Dog. We have focused on the characteristics of the dog itself and created a series that exhibit the wonderful features and character of the dogs themselves. The portrait style full colour drawings of the dogs have been individually painted in pastel colours by the world renowned pet portrait artist Sally Logue.

The obverse features an effigy of King Jayavarman VII, who reigned from 1162-1201, plus the value, 3000 Riels. |
| The reverse features a full colour image of the Siberian husky. It bears the inscriptions "Year of the Dog" (in English and Chinese) "2006", "1 oz 999 silver" and the breed name. |
Siberian Husky
The Siberian Husky is quick, athletic, agile and strong. Although smaller and lighter than some other breeds of sledge dogs, Siberian huskies are tireless workers.
Siberian Huskies were developed by the Chukchi people of northeast Asia in the 1800's for pulling sledges. They have a dense wooly undercoat protected by a tougher outer coat providing excellent insulation against the harsh climatic conditions of Siberia.
This graceful breed is also known as the Arctic Husky
There are eight 2006 dated Chinese Lunar Year coins struck from 1oz of pure silver. No more than 5,000 of each coin will be issued by the New Zealand Mint. The coins are legal tender of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Each 1oz Silver Uncirculated coin comes with a four-page printed Certificate of Authenticity issued by New Zealand Mint.
